The Vintage Trend

Nostalgia, that’s what we discovered (among many things!) in 2020. As we were locked at home, we found ourselves dreaming about those past parties and shared moments. The Fashion world is also imprinted with this nostalgic feeling and draws inspiration from the cocktail parties of the second part of the 20’s century. 70’s printed dresses and flare jeans are everywhere, and of course along with the coordinated accessories! Indeed the trend of Vintage Jewelry is emerging, and offers a multiplicity of styles and designs for now jewelry collection.

Vintage normally describes jewelry pieces that are between 50 and 100 years old. The main trends that fall under vintage are Art Deco, Retro, and Mid-Century jewelry.

Here are some examples of vintage styles we have developed for the Tamalet Collection:

Vintage jewelry depicts different trends, moments in time and is recognizable by the materials and stones used. Many renowned Maisons are redefining their collections to appeal to the women of these distinctively different decades. According to Anthony Barzilay Freund (editorial director and director of fine art, 1stDibs),“Brands like Cartier, Van Cleef and Bulgari are designing to cater to a new clientele looking for less formal, more wearable jewels that aren’t cluttered with diamonds, precious stones and fancy metalwork from the early 20th Century Edwardian/ Belle Epoque and Art Deco jewelry”. The 1950s through early 60s focused on the cocktail party and country club set. Thus, we saw mixes of gemstones, large cocktail rings, suites of necklaces and clip earrings, cuffs and flexible bracelets appear as jewels of the day. These versatile, colorful wearable pieces were everywhere, and continue to influence the jewelry market today.

At Ateliers Tamalet, we drew inspiration from those past parties to create some vintage pieces:

More and more shops, instagram accounts and specialized brands offer vintage styled jewelry inspired by those 20th century designs. The pleasure of finding pieces that make us travel in time and the chance to have the vibes of an icon of the 70’s are reunited in the Vintage Jewelry pieces.
